BREWING CHANGE THROUGH CULTURE, CONNECTION AND COUNTRY
Dja-Wonmuruk (Yes-Tea!), a proud Aboriginal woman-owned business on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, invites you to reflect, learn, and act this National Reconciliation Week (NRW).
WHAT IS NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK?
NRW (27 May to 3 June 2025) is a time for all Australians to explore how we can collectively strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
It commemorates two significant milestones:
- 27 MAY 1967: The referendum that empowered the Federal Government to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and count them in the census.
- 3 JUNE 1992: The High Court’s Mabo decision which overturned the doctrine of terra nullius, legally recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights to land.
Each year, NRW encourages honest conversations, meaningful reflection, and practical steps toward healing and justice.
NRW 2025 THEME: "BRIDGING NOW TO NEXT"
This year’s theme calls to take accountability and consciously shape a future grounded in equity, truth, and respect. "Bridging Now to Next" honours the knowledge of Elders, the momentum of the present, and the future generations who will walk forward on these.
TEA WITH PURPOSE
At Yes-Tea! our loose-leaf tea blends do more than warm your cup. They honour Country, culture, and community.
OUR COMMITMENT:
- Support Aboriginal growers and ethical sourcing,
- Preserve native bush foods and Aboriginal ecological knowledge,
- Promote eco-conscious and recyclable packaging,
- Hand-blend all teas in small batches on Country,
- Remove carbon, ocean-bound plastic, and plant trees.
Each blend is an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with self, culture, and Country.
HOW TEA CONNECTS TO CULTURE
Our ingredients carry flavours and stories. Aniseed myrtle, river mint, strawberry gum, and wattleseed are more than Australian native botanicals; they’re Aboriginal-grown bush foods. When you drink our tea, you’re engaging in a quiet act of reconciliation. One that values Indigenous knowledge and the sustainable practices passed down through generations.
ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE THIS WEEK
- EDUCATE YOURSELF: Learn about the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including local community knowledge and stories.
- SUPPORT INDIGENOUS PRODUCTS: Choose products made by Aboriginal-owned enterprises—like our teas.
- HOST A TEA CIRCLE: Brew a pot of bush-infused tea and gather in respect. Yarn about the significance of reconciliation, and what action looks like beyond the week.
- SHARE OUR BLOG: Help amplify Aboriginal entrepeneurialship and Aboriginal-Owned Businesses by sharing this blog post.
- CHECK YOUR RAP (RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN): If you're a business, school, or organisation, assess your local RAP and involve Indigenous voices in all stages.
WHY IT MATTERS
Reconciliation is about lived history, and shaping a shared future. Whether it's supporting community events, choosing ethical ingredients, learning cultural truths, and/or taking every day actions contributes to healing through connection and nourishment.
JOIN US IN BREWING CHANGE
We welcome you to contribute to NRW through quiet reflection, cultural learning, and thoughtful connection. Sip mindfully, act consciously, and tread lightly on Country. Stay connected, support First Nations businesses, and reflect this NRW through the simple (but powerful) act of sharing a cuppa and yarn.
LEARN MORE
NRW is a time for all Australians to reflect on how we each contribute to reconciliation. This year’s theme speaks to the ways knowledge is passed on and kept alive, especially through land, language, and practice. Reconciliation is not a single action. It is a collective, ongoing commitment found in small, simple moments of care, like preparing tea with intention and sharing a story through the ingredients we choose.
This week, we welcome you to take a quiet moment to reflect. To listen, to learn, and to walk forward with respect and truth, from now to next.
